A case was registered against director Bala for allegedly portraying a zamindar family hailing from Tirunelveli in bad light in his film, Avan Ivan starring Vishal and Arya. The complainant, S Muthuraman sued for defamation and said that G N Kumar's depiction of the character lacked dignity and respect.
In his defense, Bala said that the film and the characters were entirely the products of his imagination and it was not his intent to hurt anybody. He asked for the case to be dismissed as it is an abuse of the process of court and requested a stay in the meantime.
The Madras High Court has stayed the proceedings against him. Justice Sudanthiram also dismissed the petition that Bala appear personally before the Judicial magistrate of Ambasamudram regarding this case. Bala who is currently filming Eriyum Thanal with Atharvaa, Pooja and Vedhika will be glad for the respite.
