Sila
Nerangalil – Music Review |
|
After
a long time comes a movie with some really soothing melodies.
Srikanth Deva is the one with the wand this time and has churned
out numbers that are sure to bring a fan following for this
upcoming music director. Guess it is the scope to perform
that brings out the best in a creator. Kudos to Malayalam
director Jayaraj for bringing the best out of Srikanth Deva.
Cell Phonei - Suchitra
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

A
typical item number song rendered well at high pitch by Suchitra,
though she seems to be fast becoming repetitive with such numbers.
Lyrics by Vairamuthu have some naughty lines. Orchestration is
not too different but interesting mixing though. Catchy and foot
tapping, not the type that grows on you, but more of the instant
hit or miss kind. The visuals have a lot to do to elevate the
song to the next level.

Embavai
Embavai - Reshmi, Senthil Das
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A classical tune well rendered by Reshmi and Senthil Das,
a very different number, reminds you of the tunes of the 80’s.
Lyrics are classy, a number that will slowly grow on you.
Melodies seem to have a nostalgic feel to it.

Ponguthu
Ponguthu - Selvaraj, T M Sounderrajan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Reminiscent of Chandra Babu’s numbers of the 60’s, interesting
instrumentation you would have never expected from Srikanth Deva.
This composer has more to offer than just rehashed tunes for remakes.

Pottu
Vaitha - P Susheela
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Mellifluous number and who else can render it with such grace
but the one and only P Susheela. Truly great lyrics, another
retro number without any digitization, recreating the music
of the 60’s. A song that belongs to a different era
altogether.

Thirudapatta
Nilavae - Chitra, K S Haricharan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
The only new age number, with pretty good arrangement and, however
not the kind that would stand out. A sad number, probably the lead
pair lamenting about their separation. Doesn’t have too many
layers to it but has overall good harmony.

Verdict:
This album showcases the varied talent of Srikanth Deva, just goes
to show that given the chance he is one composer who would grab it
with both hands. Songs have a retro feel, in line with the mood of
the movie. Visuals will play a deciding factor in taking it to the
audience.
