Video Interview
V Priya, who delivered a hit through her debut movie Kanda Naal Mudhal, talks exclusively to Behindwoods, just before the release of her next, much anticipated movie, Kannaamoochi enadaa.

Behindwoods congratulates you on the completion of your second project

Thank You!

What is Kannaamoochi enadaa (KMY) about? How has it shaped up?

I am definitely not going to reveal the premise of the movie, however, all I can say is that it is about the different masks we wear in our lives. We
try to hide our true self often and this is what we have attempted to portray in this movie.

Radhika was the producer of this film and she plays a vital role too. How was it handling her as a producer vis-à-vis an actor?

Radhika is the creative head of Radaan, so she had the experience to spot when something went wrong. She would impart her views on certain scenes, we may disagree, but at the end we found that she was always right. We rather agreed to disagree and sometimes disagree to disagree, kind of funny situation. As an actress, I didn’t have to handle her; she handled herself with élan.

Your debut venture for Duet films Kanda Naal Mudhal (KNM) was a huge success and now you are a name to reckon with in the genre of feel-good cinema. Do you intend to return a favor to Duet films by teaming up with them in the future?

Duet Films is my home turf and Prakash Raj is my godfather with whom I share a great rapport. I wanted to grow out of my home and try out things for myself. Also staying at Duet would have made me complacent. As for returning a favor, I guess Duet is a very big banner now doing almost 5 films and they are already pepped up. I don’t need to do anything in that front. However, I will be doing a film for them in the near future.

KNM was a feel good love story while KMY also seems to give a similar feel to b’woods readers from the promos. Is it a genre you opt for as a safe bet at the box-office or is it something you are comfortable with. Also do you think films have to fall under any genre or is it just a critic’s classification?

True this one is also a feel good story; I don’t see that from the box-office perspective. I am a fun loving person myself, I personally like watching movies which the audience exit the theatres with a smile and those are the kind of movies I feel good making too. I don’t think movies need to fall under any specific genre; they are just stories being narrated and may have all elements from different genres in it.

Earlier there were reports that Madhavan and Surya were going to star in KMY. How much truth is there to this?

It is true that I spoke to Madhavan and Surya on two separate occasions, but they were for other scripts I had in mind at that point in time. I still share a good relationship with them in spite of them expressing their inability to accept those projects. I can understand their constraints and restrictions.

Reasons behind picking Prithviraj?

Prithviraj was one actor I had in mind when I decided on the project and he readily accepted the role. More so knowing he would be handle playing opposite a senior actor like Sathyaraj with ease as he doesn't come with any baggage; he had no ego hassles.

There was a kissing scene between Sathyaraj and Prithiviraj in the promos that were released. What was that about?

Not exactly, but there is a comedy sequence on similar lines for which you will have to wait till the movie releases.

Your combo with Yuvan seems to work very well but considering that you have worked with Rahman during your tenure as Mani Ratnam’s assistant, do we see you getting together any time in the future?

My relationship with Rahman was as an assistant director to Mani sir and he always looked at me that way and I still look at him from below. As for my relationship with Yuvan, it has been very productive and we have grown together and I don’t see any reason why I should look for someone else unless there comes a time when Yuvan is unavailable.
