Urchagam – Music Review
Urchagam

When we decide to listen to this album we do realize that this may just be the one to cherish as there are many reasons to come to such a conclusion. In the past, music department in Nanda's films has always remained at their best and the same trend has continued in Urchagam too. Heroine Sherin also has the same luck and she is back in Kollywood after a long hiatus.
Surprise! Surprise! Music Director Ranjith. After a successful 'VIP', he has returned to Kodambakkam after almost ten years.

Let us see whether Ranjith has lived up to his reputation or not.

Kangal – Zubeen Garg
Lyrics – Kabilan

The album kicks off with an excellent rendition of 'Kangal ennai' by Zubeen Garg. The music is very catchy and the rhythm stylish. It has a western feel to it. Lyrics are also very appealing with a mix of English and Tamil words. Adding rap numbers and the fast forwarding screech track is a master stroke. This is a confirmed chartbuster and sure to be on the lips of many youngsters for years to come. This song is a perfect example of what is in store for us in the rest of the album.

Urchagam
Naram Pookal – Hariharan and Nandhini Srikar
Lyrics - Vairamuthu

Ranjith hits back with a slow carnatic based song with some remarkable lyrics by Vairamuthu. The very start will impress all the carnatic music lovers and then Ranjith takes over mixing carnatic with western beats which is in vogue these days. The similarity between this number and 'minnal oru kodi' of VIP is striking. Still Ranjith is successful in wooing us. Nandhini Srikar's voice is very fresh and apt for such a song and Hariharan is at his brilliant best as usual. A superb song which will woo all the age groups.

Veyil – Kunal Ganjawalla
Lyrics – NA.Muthukumar

Kunal Ganjawalla is a Bollywood singing icon and roping him to sing this track has proved to be a good move on the part of the music composer. The song commences with Arabic tones, followed by Kunal's gifted voice. This is actually a slow one and some of the pieces in the middle remind the listener of Adnan Sami's albums. The song is impressive and will appeal to everyone transcending the social barrier. The beat and rhythm is good which forms a perfect alliance with Kunal's voice and guitar beats. Lifts the listener to a different plane.

Urchagam
Nanbha Nanbha – Kunal Ganjawalla
Lyrics – Pa. Vijay

Kunal is back again for another song. The starting of the number has shades of similarity with 'illamai ullasam' of Unnale Unnale but it just stops with that and proceeds on a different lane. The ability of Kunal to pronounce Tamil word effortlessly is certainly a welcome sign and Tamil lovers can heave a sigh of relief. The song slowly grows on the listener and is sure to be effective on screen.

Nethu Vecha – Gayathri Ganjawalla, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics – Na. Muthukumar

This is a fun folk song. Gayathri Ganjawalla, wife of Kunal Ganjawalla impresses with her voice, so does Vijay Prakash. The song sounds like a Sri Lankan folk number with good tempo and is likely to click with the masses quite easily. It has interesting lyrics where the hero is trying to offer heroine with many goodies and she rejecting all those offers. It sounds good and with repeated hearing the song is bound to impress. However Ranjith uses the same beats that he has used in the other songs from the same album. On the whole a decent folk song which has all the elements to become a hit.
