Theme: The theme of the story is based on the different outlook of career and life of two sisters in a middle-class Tamil family based in Chennai. Poorani ( Sneha),who has finished her B.A. Sociology avows to view life as having a purpose and discards the conservative Brahmin thinking and moves against her community wishes to join the Social Upliftment Movement. Her father a physics lecturer in the University of Madras tells his friends and family that he will not interfere in her career and life. Everyone has his or her destiny. He not only protects but allows her to continue to do what she preaches from her home. She has a flair for poetry and plays the veenai too. She writes and performs for the movement and her themes are based on Mahakavi Barathy.

Poorani goes around in a bicycle and is seen very much in the ‘cheri’ areas. Her dressing is simple and plain but attractive. Although she sits and eats with everyone in the ‘cheri’ she sticks to her vegetarian tradition.
