Balachandar rechristened the then Sivaji Rao
Gaekwad to Rajinikanth – the name that
pioneered all the ‘Kanths’ later
arrived in Tamil cinema. No one ever thought
the youngster would become an inevitable factor
in Tamil cinema in his salad days. Rajini debuted
as a villain with Apoorva Raagangal and stayed
on for a couple of years before he tested waters
as a mainstream hero which went over with a
bang – as we all well know. Lady luck
smiled at the superstar ever since and there
has been no time to look back.

his commendable presence. With over 160 movies to
his credit in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam,
