Listen
to the lyric first – Vairamuthu’s
advice to music directors |
|
Hotel Chola Sheraton wore a star studded
look on Thursday evening (28/09/06),
thanks to the glam dolls and the coolest
dude of the tinsel town. It was the
audio launch of Vattaram starring
Arya, Napoleon, Keerath, and Athisaya
in the lead directed and produced
by Saran. |
|
|
Apple of Saran’s eye Bharadwaj
renders the music to Vattaram
who made Saran’s movies
top in the music charts as well.
He has worked with Saran in
all his movies to date and his
music is Amarkkalam, Gemini,
and Jay Jay was noticeably popular.
Bharadwaj has brought a whopping
seven new singers into the musical
scene with this movie, which
includes Kalyani, Janani, Rajesh,
Shobha, Kavita, Satyan, and
Mrilangati.
Napoleon launched the first
audio CD of the movie, which
was received by director Vishnuvardhan.

Vairamuthu mentors the
musicians
The function that followed the
audio launch saw many veterans
delivering speeches wishing
Vattaram a grandeur success.
Noted lyricist Vairamuthu, in
his speech stated that music
directors these days are under
huge pressure to prove their
skills, which makes them end
up relying predominantly on
musical instruments. The substance
of the song is quite often lost
due to this and the blame for
this can well be placed upon
the excessive usage of electronic
musical instruments, Vairamuthu
denoted. |
|
|
|
He also advised the music directors
to pay heed to the lyrics and that
the music should not outdo the lyrics.
Often a single violin or a flute is
sufficient to compose a beautiful
song and only the tunes and lyrics
will make them speak more, Vairamuthu
indicated. |

Up with cinema and down
with politics
Napoleon in his forthright speech
stated that he has experienced
a bad phase in his political
career. He was referring to
his losing in the assembly elections
from the Mylapore constituency.
He also nostalgically recounted
that only his association in
cinema and his pals in the industry
have helped him to emerge from
his emotional turmoil.
He also stated that none of
his political friends rendered
him a shoulder during his difficult
times in his political career
and he expressed that he is
grateful to his friends in the
cinema circles who helped him
a great deal.

Arya’s apology
Arya in his speech publicly
apologized for having misgivings
about the movie and the date
confusion. If you might well
remember, Arya was committed
to Naan Kadavul and was expecting
Bala to take off with the shoots.
He was even reluctant to do
his part in Vattaram and after
a great deal of persuasion from
the director, he continued with
the shoots. However, in due
course Arya felt himself drawn
to the movie and extended his
full co-operation to the crew.
Arya stated that he had fears
about Saran’s treatment
towards him but it turned out
that Saran was nice to him during
the entire shoots of the movie
and never grumbled even at a
single instance.

|
|
I
was wary that he would chew my head
off when I had to go for numerous
retakes, Arya stated. |

Closure
Bharathwaj opined that Tamil movies
need not have westernized music and
that the music directors should focus
on the Indian element while rendering
music to Tamil movies. The launch
was also attended by ace director
Vishnuvardhan, director Hari, Nag
Ravi, CEO of ASE, Vinu Chakravarthi,
and Chinni Jayanth to name a few. |
