An
insider’s report of the CM felicitation
ceremony |
|
Entire
Tamil cinema seemed to have gathered
in Nehru Stadium just to grace the
occasion by their mere star-studded
presence to mark the cultural event
in the pages of the history of Kollywood.
On top of that performances by dudes
and damsels of Tamil industry to express
their gratitude towards the Chief
Minister were visually extravagant
and spectacular. Here we take you
through the first person eyewitness
account of the function. |
|
|
Show starter
It was 5.00 p.m. and the venue
was beginning to fill with celebrities
from different walks of the
industry. Sathyaraj, being the
organizing committee member
of the function, was at the
entrance inviting the guests
to the event with his trademark
grin.
Radharavi and Sarathkumar were
not to be seen anywhere in the
function probably owing to their
prior commitments or simply
that they do not share common
views with the organizers |
|
|
Tamil
Thai Vaazhthu was sung by Manickam
Vinayagam to mark the commencement
of the function. The stage was then
handed over to Deva for light music
performance. Deva, after a brief note
started his show with ‘Autokkaran’
and entertained the guests as a show
starter. |
|
Grandeur entry of notable
guests
Vikram made his entry at 5.30
and owing to his chicken pox,
he wore a thick-bearded look.
It took him a while to find
a seat and Radhika came to rescue
by offering him her seat. Manorama,
Meena and her mother and Vijay
came in. Rajini with his family,
which included Latha, Dhanush
and Aishwarya, entered and were
seated followed by Shankar and
Arjun. |
|
|
|
Meanwhile,
S J Suryah appeared on stage with
Deva and exhibited his singing prowess
with a song from Kushi. At 6.00 p.m.
Chief Minister Karunanidhi appeared
with Stalin, Dayanidhi Maran, Ramanarayanan
and SA Chandrasekhar. Upon his entry,
SJ Suryah – who was in the stage
performing - sung in praise of the
CM. Kushboo and Sundar C came after
that. |

Apologized
Asin
After the complete attendance
of artistes is registered, performance
of different artistes begun
with different stars presenting
a brief before each dance performance.
Kushboo in her brief did not
utter a word about the C M while
Radhika went on just to say
a warm welcome to Tamil and
welcome to all the guests. Asin,
after apologizing, gave her
brief in English. |
|
|
The
dance performances were sizzling and
Lawrence’s dance program with
the physically challenged persons
was impressive and won the hearts
of lots.
Three different skits were enacted
by Vivek, Vadivelu, Nazir, and S A
Chandrasekhar. While Vivek and Vadivelu
enacted a comic performance, the skit
presented by S A Chandrasekhar and
Nazir shown various leaders like Periyar,
Anna and MGR singing praises of Karunanidhi.
Alex with his magic show brought a
Kannagi statue to the stage and won
applause.
Kamal made his entry at 8.10 sans
his cap and rumored Kudumi. |

List
of celebrity lectures
Ramanarayanan welcomed
the crowd. Celebrities like
Rajini, Kamal, Shankar, Sivakumar,
Parthiban, Vairamuthu, Vijay,
Ilayaraja, T Rajendar, and Bhagyaraj
delivered lectures and amused
the crowd and the Chief Minister
himself with their wit and sentiments.
Shankar read out a poem while
Shivakumar enacted a Manohara
dialogue on stage. |
|
|
|
Parthiban
with his unusual self presented an
account of a ‘mic’ that
said it knows the CM for a long time
since he has been speaking to it.
Vairamuthu graced the crowd with his
speech and Vijay stated that he was
proud to have enacted the CM’s
dialogue for Sattam Oru Vilayattu.
Illayaraja sung a song in the tune
of ‘Katril Varum Geedame’
with lyrics in praise of the CM. Kamal
hailed that the CM has no desire for
the chairs because he refused to sit
in the silver, which was presented
to him. |
|
|
The
Rajini factor
Rajini’s speech was received
with huge applause making the
entire stadium to reverberate
with applauds. Rajini stated
that Karunandhi rules the hearts
of every Tamil.
Rajini uttered that it is imperative
to put up with rigorous criticisms
and the Chief Minister has tremendous
level of tolerance, which has
elevated him to this position.
He further said that people
who seem to be joyful in the
industry are not really happy
and many of them pretend to
be so. |
|
|
He
remarked that every Friday marks the
destiny of a movie star. He requested
that the offerings from the side of
the Chief Minister should be received
with wide arms.
Finally it was time for the CM to
deliver the acceptance speech and
he went on to say that he is exhilarated
with the event that the organizers
have managed and expressed nice sentiments
about his association with Tamil cinema.
Soon after the CM’s speech,
S A Chadrasekhar thanked the invitees
and marked the official end of the
event.
Closure
Dance performance by all
the young artistes of Tamil cinema
marked the closure of the event. The
song was a Vairamuthu poem; music
scored by Bharatjwaj and it was on
the Chief Minister’s life.
The entire gala event was a treat
to the eyes of the lucky spectator
who managed to gain a place in the
stadium and the crowd that was present
in the stadium was implausible. |
