Journey
of Shankar from an assistant director
to successful producer
|
|
In
Kollywood, director Shankar has
a special place. He has been a role
model and an inspiring person for
a lot of upcoming directors. In
fact, in one of his interviews,
Simbu has openly acknowledged his
desire to be cast in the mould of
Shankar. Now his image has metamorphosed
from a successful director to successful
producer.

Career
Shankar who began his career
as an assistant director to
S.A.Chandrashekar and Pavithran
has come a long way in the industry.
His maiden hit was Gentleman
which was followed by a string
of victories like Kaadalan,
Indian, Jeans, Mudalvan, Nayak
in Hindi, Boys and Anniyan.
Sivaji is now being sculpted
with Rajni in the lead.
Rationalist
The glamour industry is known
for its infestation of various
beliefs and faiths. Numerology
and astrology rule the roost
here. Though belonging to the
same field, Shankar does not
follow any of these beliefs.

In
fact his car number reads eight
even now. Perhaps it is do with
his birth date which is 17th
august.
Maiden
production
In 2003, he produced
‘Kaadal’ under the
banner of S films which gave
Balaji Shakthivel a film of
his career. This film was talked
about all over Tamil Nadu and
was critically acclaimed too.
In 2006, it was Simbu Devan
who walked away with the next
prestigious project of S films
viz. Imsai Arasan. Now comes
Veyil from this banner which
is being directed by Vasantha
Balan who again happened to
apprentice with Shankar.

Loyal
Directors
Directors like Balaji Shakthivel
who was given a new lease of life
in films by Shankar are yet to accept
any other films as they are keen to
work only for S pictures. Numerous
offers have been knocking at Balaji’s
door but the director has not yielded
to any one. Same is the case with
Simbu Devan who is very adamant that
his next movie would only be with
‘S Pictures’.

Now
we need to wait and watch Vasantha
Balan’s policy because
his film Veyil has already raised
the expectations in the industry.
Shankar
the Guardian Angel for talented
directors
As far as Shankar is
concerned, he feels it is very
essential to bring out talent
to the forefront wherever it
is. Hence it comes across as
a familiar and natural sight
to see so many ambitious directors
with a big file in hand swarming
Shankar’s office. In short,
Tamil film industry sure owes
a thing or two to this director
cum producer who is keen to
bring positive changes to Kollywood.
Keep the good work going Shankar!!! |
