‘E’
magic at the box-office: Will it overtake
Varalaaru? |
|
Though
most of the movies released on the
grand Diwali day turned out to be
damp squibs, there are a few –
very few and a handful that is –
that are reigning at the box office.
To cut it short, only Varalaaru and
E are proving to be earning some bucks
at the box office.
Recent reports reveal that E is closing
in on Varalaaru in a few theatres
in the city. Will E’s collections
rewrite the Diwali box office records
this year? Read on to find out. |

Varalaaru vs E
Varalaaru has been receiving
rave reviews in the media and
the fact that the movie was
under production for a long
time did not affect the results.
Varalaaru opened to full houses
– as any other Ajith movies
– and owing to those good
reviews has been doing well
at the box office until recently.
Now though, it seems like people
are a little bored with the
run of the mill, family and
sentiment drama and are heading
towards the offbeat movies.
|
|
|
As
a result, E seems to be picking up
at a fast pace, which has sent surprises
in the trade circles. Though the reviews
of E, which has an offbeat storyline,
are favorable, the not-so-family-friendly
subject did not receive much attention
earlier. This trend has seen a decline
and it appears that E is being received
with wide open arms now. |

Theatre analysis
Yesterday at Abhirami multiplex
in Purasawalkam, E has been
promoted to four shows in Sakthi
Abirami where it was previously
playing for three shows. All
the four show ran to full houses
yesterday and surprisingly the
tickets were sold out like hotcakes
in the morning. There were a
disappointed lot roaming around
in the theatres looking for
black tickets who did not think
tickets for E were hard to get.
To their disappointment, even
black tickets were to no avail.

In
Suriyan at Udhayam complex,
E has been promoted to four
shows from today as opposed
to three shows it was playing
earlier. Mayajaal Multiplex
at ECR is playing E for five
shows which is closer to Vallavan
which has six shows. Mayajaal
is also witnessing packed houses.
On the other hand, Varalaaru
which is running in Abirami
– the biggest theatre
in this multiplex witnessed
breaks in shows. The movie was
not able to grace the audience
and a few rows were empty. |
|
|
However,
Varalaaru has beaten Vallavan in Mayajaal
complex with a hold of seven shows
where Vallavan only has six shows
per day. |

Meritorious
Jeeva
The upbeat collections of E
will most certainly prove as
a success story of another youngster
in the industry named Jeeva.
Unlike others, this youngster
has no airs about his background
and for the fact that he hails
from a reputed family that owns
a noted production house. Jeeva
is already recognized in the
movie circles as a humble, hardworking,
and promising actor who has
a gifted potential. |

Conclusion
With Christmas holidays drawing closer,
the Diwali movies have not more than
a month and a half to prove their
might at the box office. With new
releases announced week after week,
the scene gets a little tough for
them to sustain. If E or Varalaaru
sustains at the box office resisting
all the difficulties, it will keep
the distributors, producers, and actors
in high spirits. |
