Varalaru
vs Vallavan – Diwali movies sales
report |
|
Diwali,
the festival of lights is seldom complete
without a plethora of movies making
their way to the theatres. For most
film-buffs in India, watching a movie
on Diwali day is a ritual by itself!
The film industry, over the years
has made note of this fact, and ensures
that it makes gargantuan revenue,
by lining up movies as Diwali releases.
|
|
|
Kollywood has witnessed several
timeless Diwali clashes at the
box offices, with memorable
battles between the likes of
Sivaji–MGR, Kamal–Rajini
and more recently Ajith–Vijay!
This year promises to be a greater
showdown at the box-office,
with nearly 10 movies waiting
to hit the marquee!! There are
also some conspicuous absentees
for this year’s Diwali
like Vijay, Vikram and Surya.
The talks, however, is centred
on Ajith’s ‘Varalaru’,
which has been lying in the
cans for a very long time and
Simbu’s ‘Vallavan’.
|
|
|
The
expectation is also quite reasonable
on Saran’s Vattaram. Of course,
Vijayakanth’s ‘Dharmapuri’
and Jeeva’s ‘E’
could be dark horses. |
|
The sources in the film industry
averred that already 15 areas
throughout Tamil Nadu had been
sold out for Varalaru with the
figure netting between Rs.10
to 12 crores. The information
gained ground so far is that
Vallavan, whose songs like ‘Loosu
penne’ and ‘Aaha
Vandhiruchu’, are already
a rage among the youth, has
been marketed out in 13 territories
and the figure comes to a whopping
sum of eight crores.
‘Dharmapuri’, the
Vijayakanth starrer, has been
sold for a price of seven crores.
This has bolstered the prospects
of the movie, especially after
the good showing of Captain’s
last released flick, ‘Perarasu’.
|
|
|
|
‘E’,
has garnered a territory share of
three crores. The trailer has already
evoked a positive response in the
film circles, which seem to be bedazzled
with the technical niceties of the
movie. This offbeat venture by award
winning director, S P Jananathan might
well do the trick at the box -office. |
|
|
‘Thalaimagan’,
the centennial movie of Sarath
Kumar, promises to be a wholesome
entertainer in the genre of
an action-thriller. Around eight
territories have purchased the
movie for a net sum of five
crores and the distributors
are keeping their fingers crossed,
since the actor’s movies
have not done well in the recent
past.
The other movies, which are
joining the ‘Diwali release’
bandwagon, are ‘Thirumagan’,
the S.J.Suryah starrer and Arjun’s
‘Vaathiyar’. |
|
|
The
sources feel that these movies have
only a small chunk of the territorial
distribution and have done moderate
sales. |
|
No
complaints from Srikanth’s
Kizkakku Kadarkarai Salai, which
has done reasonable business
in most of the areas. R S Anthanan,
manager of Srikanth, is producing
this film. Anthanan himself
has retained the distribution
rights of the film in Chennai
city. Bhavana joins Srikanth
in this film, which happens
to be her second venture as
heroine in Tamil after Chithiram
Pesudadi.
However, in the ultimate analysis,
the winner of this battle is
unknown. An array of choices
is in the offing for movie lovers
this Diwali. |
|
|
|
Though
the Hobson’s choice is on Ajith’s
‘Varalaaru’ and Simbu’s
‘Vallavan’, things might
well take a different turn- around
once the theatrical release takes
place and the initial hype and hoopla
settles down.
With less than three weeks to go for
the movies to pop out of the cans,
the producers may solicit controversy
to prop up their products. Whatever
the grapevine in the trade feels,
few fans are complaining, as they
are all set to enjoy a grand Diwali
feast of movies!! |
