Diwali
releases and their lessons |
|
The
pattern of response of the general
public to a film still remains an
unsolved jig saw puzzle. The film
industry is nebulous in fathoming
the pulse of the audience. There are
no confirmed theories or guidelines
to make a successful film. An all
round approach is necessary to establish
a link with the audience of all categories.
For a film to be a hit, there are
many factors beyond the selection
of story and artists to make it a
hit or a colossal flop. Actors are
of the opinion that success of a film
is due to their image but it is always
the success that renders them with
an image. Let us analyze the results
of this year Diwali releases.

Varalaru
Varalaru
has broken the myth that films
under production for an extended
duration will suffer. Vettaiyadu
Vilayadu has also reiterated
the same fact. As long as the
story line and performance is
good, the film will be received
with a positive response. This
has been proved in Varalaru.
There is no denying the fact
that films of Ajith continue
to attract a good opening. In
summation, Varalaru has satisfied
family audience and youth segment
in all the three trade centres
of film industry.

E
Though
E cannot claim itself to be
a super duper hit, it is doing
a fair business. This film has
unraveled the acting potential
of Jeeva who has elevated himself
to higher echelons in terms
of performance. While he is
yet to feature in any of the
lead director’s film,
he has proved his mettle as
an actor which is sure to give
him a good standing in the industry.
E is an example of a film which
is well conceived and conceptualized
with adequate emphasize on social
empathy.

Vallavan
Target
segment for Vallavan is youth
who is a satisfied lot with
this film. But it is a damp
squib with family crowd and
with the B and C centres. This
is an example of an attractive
and colourful ice-cream with
no sweetness inside being rejected
by its takers.
Vattaram
The
film lacks Charan’s touch.
In the recent past audience
have had an overdose of films
with ‘Dadaism’ and
gangster war. This could be
the reason for its lukewarm
response. But as regards the
collections, this film is reported
to be doing a moderate business. |

Thalaimagan
When the objective of a film
is to deal with a social issue,
it better be a contemporary
one. If not, it would fail to
connect with the audience. This
fact is well exemplified in
this film.
Dharmapuri
Dharmapuri is dedicated to action
buffs and Vijaykanth fans. But
too much of political satires
have proved counter productive
for Dharmapuri. Lack of a neat
story line, illogical and unbelievable
sequences are cited against
the failure of this film.

In
short, while Varalaru can stake claim
as a super hit among the Diwali bunch,
Vallavan can credit itself to be a musical
hit. |
