Bala
has carved a niche for himself.
His movies, which are often
a perfect marriage between the
box office and critical acclaim,
have a certain dedicated audience.
His latest venture, Naan Kadavul,
which has finally lifted itself
out of the several failed starts,
is now the talk of the tinsel
town. Its protagonist is an
atheist who sings at funerals
who goes to Varanasi in search
of the meaning of God. One would
imagine, this only requires
a performance of the highest
order from the lead cast. |

Bala
the task master
Arya, who is playing that part, is
all enthused. The stills from the
photo shoot for the movie have simply
dazzled onlookers. Actually, even
Arya himself. Recalling the experience,
he said, when he went into the director’s
office, he was almost scared of entering
the dark caves, which looked to be
from a different age. Arya said, his
faith in the director was such that
he did not even know the story or
the details of the character. Bhavana
and he went to the photo shoot and
did as told by Bala – who made
sure his cast had the right body language.

Divine
vibrations
The stills that were shot
had Arya in different postures
of Yoga including Sirasasanam
and Padmasanam. Arya after
several attempts, finally
did get the asanas right and
the photos were in fact shot.
In one of the stills, he has
a burning fire pot on his
head while on the other, he
is standing on his head with
legs folded and body smeared
in ash. He admitted that they
were quite difficult and even
resulted in sprains here and
there. Arya overwhelmed during
the photo shoot. He felt some
divine vibrations in and around
him and hopes it would continue
throughout the shooting of
the film.

Inner God
But, he is absolutely confident
of this movie being the defining
aspect of his career. He also
denied claims that he was
playing God in this movie
– it is a mere expression
of the inner God in every
human, Arya said.
Meanwhile,
yesterday the shooting kicked
off at Nazareth Pettai where
some scenes related to Arya
were shot and the crew with
lead cast may soon switch
to some temple town in southern
Tamil Nadu.
