Dasavatharam,
Kamal Hassan’s next movie, is
all set to start on the 18th of August.
The shooting will begin at Kumbakonam.
With the first shot to be filmed at
the historic Airavatheeswarar Temple
in Darasuram, just outside Kumbakonam. |

The
temple, which is one of the
oldest in South India, is a
marvel of Chola architecture.
It has spectacular sculptures
and its architecture rivals
that of the Big Temple in Tanjore.
With such a backdrop and with
Kamal’s known preference
for the tasteful choice of location,
it sure will please his fans.
The town itself, is a non-descript
place along the Madras –
Tanjore railway line. Apart
from the ancient temple of monumental
proportions, there is just a
railway station. |

Obviously,
the permission to shoot at such
a historic temple does not come
easy. With strict regulations
in place, it is very difficult
to get all the concerned permission
from the various government
bodies. It is said that actor
Napolean, who is a member of
the ruling party, helped Kamal
get this permission. After some
consultations with the Hindu
Religious Endowment Board minister,
the matter was finally settled.
Kamal fans may have to thank
Napolean for this gesture. |

In
this background, Kamal will
sport the look of a 14th Century
Vaishnavite. Some sources suggest,
it could be based on the famous
vaishnavite saint, Ramanujar.
With such a male lead who is
Vaishnavite saint, the choice
of the heroine was tricky. She
should suit the role of a vaishnavite
woman – which is not easy
for modern actresses. After
much thought and deliberation,
Asin has been roped in for this
role. It is said that her song
& dance sequence in Sivakasi,
where she played a ‘mami’
in Ennatha solvanungo, helped
her get this chance. |

One
other role that the multi faceted
actor will play is that of Arjunar.
For this, a woman with suitable
North Indian looks is being
hunted for. This is most likely
to feature someone from Bollywood.
Another interesting piece of
information on the same topic
is that, Mallika Sherawat, the
bombshell from Bollywood, is
also set to play one of the
roles. Kamal, who was known
for his romantic scenes much
before Mallika even knew what
Cinema was, will use the glamour
quotient of the actress to the
maximum extent possible |
