Starnites
and the woes of starlets!! |
|
|
|
|
What do the ex-heroines, burnt out
heroines and out of work starlets
do for a living? Well, they are not
out of work. They go on starnites
abroad.
Starnites are star nights, events
that are held out side India, where
the stars and heroines dance and gig
for an audience. Fans, business people
and pleasure mongers gather at these
events, to celebrate, to enjoy, to
entertain themselves in the company
of the celluloid personalities they
adore. |
|
|
|
Though
many heroes and heroines participate
in these events, it is Prashanth and
Meena who take part in these events
quite frequently.
When a hero gives a performance, he
is accompanied by the junior artistes
and a comedy team. However, when a
heroine goes, she can go alone. She
joins a local troupe there to give
her performance.
The countries that our Kodambakkam
stars visit frequently are the Middle
East, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. |

A
starnite tour may be anywhere between
a week and a month. Ask the stars
here where they are going, you get
a reply that they are going abroad
to visit a relative. No one just understands
why the stars lie. Right from Trisha,
through Sneha, Renuka Menon, to Babylona
give the same reply— “I
am visiting a relative.”
Why there is such a craze among actresses
for starnite? The money they get is
big. Something that works out to as
much as they earn per movie when they
were at the peak of their career.
Regular participants in starnites
these days are Sneha, Chaya Singh,
Renuka Menon, Trisha and even Sada. |

|
Their
programme and itinerary are kept top
secret. The stars have their own agents
who look after all the programme and
arrangements. When we say stars, we
mean mostly the heroines and the starlets.
The stars have had their own bitter
experiences while participating in
such events. Ask Rambha, Vindhiya,
Chaya Singh or Meena if you want to
confirm. |

Though
the stars seem to enjoy their trips abroad,
entertaining, earning and in return being
entertained, the stars do not like the way
people look at these starnites back home.
“When a classical dancer gives a performance
abroad, you say it is in the service of
art. But when we perform abroad, you look
down upon us. It is not fair,” laments
one starlet who doesn’t want to be
named here. “In fact, in these performances,
we dress very modestly,” she adds. |
