Vikram
& Bollywood – The bond begins! |

When Malayalam Superstar Mammootty
spoke up against the IIFA saying that
Indian cinema is not just Bollywood
cinema or Hindi cinema, it created
quite a furor in the industry. But
this reigning star in Kollywood, who
has just returned from the 7 th International
Indian Film Awards (IIFA) in Dubai,
seems accepting and unruffled about
that aspect. "Well, the way I
look at it is, the IIFA is primarily
a Bollywood awards event. Despite
that, I felt there was quite a strong
representation of films from South
India. In fact, out of the 16 films
that were screened at the event, 8
were from the South."

In Hyderabad to inaugurate the special jewellery
collection at Kirthilals, Somajiguda, Vikram
seems to be obviously excited about his
recent trip to the event, as he fraternised
with icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh
Khan, etc. Moreover, with the multi-state
blockbuster Anniyan being released in Hindi
as Aparachit, Vikram sure is on cloud number
nine. "Actually, to be frank, I wasn't
sure at all if the north Indian audience
would even accept such a film.

I am indeed flattered to see that
it has been very well received. In
Mumbai, during a special screening
for the press, the film even got a
standing ovation!" Despite such
unexpected adulation, Vikram is clear
about his intentions of entering Bollywood.
"I never had any expectations
or aspirations per se about making
it big in Bollywood. But that does
not mean I am not open to opportunities
coming from there. I would love to
work with directors like Sanjay Leela
Bhansali, Ram Gopal Verma and Rakeyesh
Mehra."

While
rumours suggest that Vikram might
be a part of Bharathiraja's first
Bollywood venture, Vikram is quick
to set them aside. "It is true
that I was in Mumbai for the launch
ceremony of the film, and that I was
approached by Bharathiraja sir for
the film, but I didn't wish to take
it up as I don't feel this is the
right time to make my entry in Bollywood.
Arjun is now playing the part that
was offered to me initially."

Sporting
a rugged look with a French beard and closely
cropped hair, Vikram is looking completely
different from his earlier ventures! Looks
like he is all set for his current bilingual
film, Bheema opposite Trisha, the first
schedule of which is already complete. The
second schedule is said to begin on July
1st. An out and out entertainer, Bheema
is certainly one of the much-awaited films
this year. |
