Nadigar
Sangam Elections: Action scenes awaited? |
|
|
|
It
is that time of the year again when elections
are held. No, we are not talking about general
elections, assembly elections, Rajya Sabha
elections or anything political in fact. |
|
|
We are talking about the Nadigar Sangam’s
President elections, and the situation
is rather tense!
Captain Vijayakanth is the current
President of the association, but
has said that he would not be interested
to contest this year. Since he has
already served two tenures as the
President, and with his recent entry
in politics as the man behind the
independent party, DMDK, the Captain
would like to invest his energies
into the political scenario, rather
than the cinema scene.
|
|
|
Loyalists
would however love to see their Captain
wielding the baton of President again,
but Vijaykanth remains resolute in
his decision and has decided to definitely
step down.
Hence, arguments, deliberations and
fierce competitions are all part of
the game now. With both the leading
political parties wanting their preferred
candidate to win, what with their
vested interests as the owners of
two rival channels, the run to the
elections is certainly going to be
tough. |

|
|
Currently,
the various posts stand like this:
President – Vijayakanth; General
Secretary – Sarath Kumar; Vice
Presidents – Napolean, Radharavi,
SS Chandran. While the AIADMK party
is fiercely recommending Sarath Kumar,
DMK is trying to get Napolean to win.
But yet another name is doing the
rounds. Prabhu, most believe, will
take over as President, as he might
be unanimously declared the winner,
since there will be no opposition
if he contests. |
|
|
He
has already got the support of stalwarts
like Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan and the
two political parties will not have a problem
with a neutral person like Prabhu.
A General Body meeting will be convened
by Vijayakanth on June 11th. With nearly
300 members touted to attend, the meeting
will finalise a date for the elections.
Looks like there will be tough competition,
not just for the post of President, but
also for the other posts that include the
posts of the treasurer, the vice-presidents
and the general secretary. |
