How
is Mr.Dhanush – post Pudupettai? |
|
|
|
It
might quite surprise you when you enter the
aesthetically designed flat of Dhanush and
Aishwarya in Mylapore. He answers the door
and welcomes you with a bright smile. He still
sports the Puduppettai hairstyle. |

Selva internalized the role
for me
Talk settles down to his latest film.
“I just cannot imagine how I
pulled off the character of Kokki
Kumar. I could bring the energy to
the role only because I had a good
director who knew how to extract the
emotions out of me. My brother Selva
internalized the role to me so that
I virtually lived the character in
the film. I ran the whole gamut of
emotions like joy at going to school
and terror at being chased down by
the ruthless father. Can you forget
the scene where I struggle with the
door latch? It was….”
He just drifts away. |

I
have seen worst and best in life
Does he think that Puduppettai would
put his career back on rails? “Well,
you see, when I entered films there
were many who were ready to write
me off. They all predicted my end
sooner rather than later. I gave a
string of hits and they fell quiet.
But, when my films started flopping,
they were back at me. I have only
this to say to everyone. I have seen
the worst of what life has to offer.
I have struggled with poverty and
deprivation. But, when I decided to
make my life in cinema, I give one
hundred per cent commitment. |
|
|
|
It
is just that Selva stood by me at my hour
of crisis and gave the unforgettable role
of Kokki Kumar. He believed in me and I
found my confidence. It is not right to
say that I work best only under him. Let
us hope that Puduppettai would bring a new
wave of cinema of realism and pain.” |

Real
gangsters are most suave and frail
built
Box office response has been mixed.
About the comment that his puny stature
does not gel with the image of gangster,
he says, “The real gangsters
are the most suave and frail built.
Anyhow my level of action in the film
was realistic and only the wrenching
performance has worked in my favor.
So I hope it kind of balances things.” |

My face doesn’t fit in the
popular notion of a big star
Does he find faults in his acting in the
film? “Oh, many. I should have better
timing and body language. I am working on
it and may be in the next films you would
see more improvement. My face does not fit
in the popular notion of a big star. Yet,
I am recognized today as one with good potential.
Of course, there are some roles which I
cannot pull off – like that of Sanjay
Ramasamy. But I would like to experiment.
My next film, Thiruvillaiayadal is a full-fledged
comedy”. |

I
do fight with Aishwarya
On to personal life and being Superstar
Rajini’s son-in-law, Dhanush
says “I am so happy that I have
Aishwarya as my soul mate. She gives
me so much happiness and has brought
all the nice things in my life. We
are expecting the baby in October
and I am more nervous than her as
I cannot see her writhing in pain.
Aishwarya is the perfect foil for
me. I am introverted while she is
outgoing and takes things lightly.
She has personally supervised the
interiors for the house and it shows. |
|
|
|
She
has no airs about being a famous man’s
daughter. She shows respect to elders especially
my parents and loves everyone in my household.
That shows her upbringing. What’s
in a marriage if there are no fights? We
do have ours but they last only for—
five minutes.” |

Wishes
to work with Mani and Shankar
On the course of his career, he says
“I would like to work with big
names like Shankar and Mani Ratnam,
who would take me to higher levels
but I just want to take things one
by one. I am only 22. Time is on my
side.” |

No
car for him
A sworn vegetarian in a family of non-vegetarians,
he loves laptops and cell phones as his
toys. He gifted his wife a Mercedes on her
birthday. But he does not have a car of
his own. He borrows from her.
As you leave the young man, you get the
impression that here is a honest man who
would like to play a long innings in the
industry. He does not like to grab attention
just because of his famous connections and
is willing to wait for the right opportunity.
It is indeed difficult to find guys of this
sort in this age of quick gratification.
Hats off, Dhanush. |
