Craze in Kollywood for ex-heroines
Nadhiya
They may want to live in peace—the ex-heroines with their husbands and children—but our producers and directors want them back in Kollywood. Believe it or not, there is a new craze for ex-heroines in mother roles.

All these began with Nadia who played mother to Jeyam Ravi in Kumaran, s/o Mahalakshmi. “It’s a great publicity by itself, the ex-heroines coming back on screen,” says a well-known producer who wants to remain anonymous.
Trade observers agree that if you bring a former diva on screen, people talk about it. The publicity generated is equal to that of signing up of a top star such as Rajini, Ajith, Vijay, or Vikram.

So we have Kodambakkam making efforts to rope in Radha, yes, of ‘Mudhal Mariyaadhai’ fame, and Jayasri of ‘Thendralae Ennai Thodu’ fame. The roles that are offered to these ladies are those of elder sisters, aunts or mothers.

If the money is big, most of them don’t mind doing the roles. However, former heroines who still look young, for example Nadia, Rathi Agnihotri, Bhanupriya’s sister Nishanthi and Seetha, do a lot of thinking before they sign up. And they lay their condition too! They will not act mothers to Ajith, Vijay, Prashanth or Maddy. Actresses like Kushboo and Devayani have remained undecided. It depends on the pay cheque.
As already said, the producers show a keen interest because bringing in such heroines back in mothers’ roles generate publicity. The moviegoers are keen. They want to know how the former divas look now. The older movie buffs go nostalgic when these heroines make their re-entry.

However, for the ardent moviegoers it is an anticlimax to see their once dream girls ravaged by time. Radha, Ambika and Roja are bloated beyond imagination. In fact, Ambika looks like a grandma, not a ma.
