All your editors have grabbed national awards, how is it so? What makes it possible?

Because I don’t go by references, I choose based on their talent. I give them space for creativity and let them excel. We sit and set up an infrastructure and if their inputs are satisfying, I proceed and I think what makes it possible is the strength of the script and it’s sound technicality. Once you give a deserving person an opportunity to excel, I'm sure they will make the best use of it.

I give them space for creativity and let them excel.

Previous two films have managed to make a mark easily, so how different is the upcoming venture Aarathu Sinam?

Because it’s a remake, I think that makes it different enough. This venture will have strong visuals and great execution. I have tried to make it as appealing as possible. It is high on emotions and passion. I have changed the colour tones and re-worked in detail about the framing too.

It is high on emotions and passion.

What made you choose to do the remake of Memories?

Memories in itself is a great script coupled with sound screenplay so I think that’s reason enough.

Why did you choose Arulnidhi?

I was very interested in remaking Memories and the fact that I share a great rapport with him helped to make this project happen. Obviously there’s also this factor that he is a great fit for the role.

Is Aarathu Sinam a direct remake of Memories?

No, we have altered some necessary sequences in the venture and given it a regional touch. It will be more relate able for the Tamil audience but we have managed to recapture the magic of its original version.

Given that cinematography is an important part of your style, how do you go about it?

Yes cinematography is the backbone because I plan each and every frame of the movie with a keen eye to detail. Be it the properties or people, I work on each frame and plan things ahead.

The trailer seems to portraying something dark and thrilling, will this match the record set by the previous ones?

Yes but you should keep in mind that this is a different genre from the previous genres. I would state that this movie will easily do justice to the script par all the comparisons.

Are you ready for the comparisons that will be made every time a remake is released?

Comparisons are abundant on all social platforms. Even Kamal Haasan’s Paapanasam faced a lot of issues in the beginning, so as far as I am concerned I’m okay with it. I'm sure that people won't slam us because the movie has come out really well.

Experience of working with Arulnithi? Aishwarya Rajesh?

Arulnithi is a very down to earth and humble person. He is very enthusiastic and asks for retakes without second thoughts. He is a sincere artist and was the first choice for the role.

Aishwarya Rajesh is a great performer. Be it her expressions or body language she has delivered her best in this venture. The chemistry between the lead actors has also come out well.

He is very enthusiastic and asks for retakes without second thoughts.

We presume that you have stuck to Thaman since beginning, what's the reason? special satisfaction? What do you like about his style?

Thaman is very talented and has the calibre to deliver the best. I felt that he can work out the best on every genre, so I went along with it. Needless to say, I am happy about the outcome too.

Your choice of scripts is very different, very engaging and zero hero worship, reason?

I believe that content is the king and that it can make the project easily sellable. The hero and heroine should be performers while the story should speak for itself, is what I believe in.

I believe that content is the king

What to expect and not expect from the movie?

If you come to the theatre without any comparisons, you will be satisfied with the movie. Be it the actors or technicality of the movie, everything is top notch.

I am very sure that the public will feel that the script and actors have done justice to the remake.

Be it the actors or technicality of the movie, everything is top notch.

Are you planning on helming a movie with a big hero?

Of course, but opportunities are decided by time and luck. Also, if I get to direct a big hero I'll be totally okay with a commercial bonanza too if necessary.

If  you get an opportunity to do so, who will you want to direct?

My first choice is Vijay or Ajith.

Who's your first choice?

(laughs) I don't wanna choose between them and would like to direct both of them eventually.

I don't wanna choose between them

Example of a movie, that you feel you could have directed?

From the recent times, I loved Indru Netru Naalai. I feel that it is a bit underrated and needs more recognition. It’s a brilliant movie and is awesome in every aspect.
