taking
a mini break. The music director has little
control in the visualization, but he often
has total control in the musicians recording
the song and some control in the lyrics
of the song. Given the brilliant work our
music directors do in creating and recording
the songs, I'm often baffled at times with
the selection of vocalists for the songs.
Three main issues come to mind:
1. Using their voice to
sing a song. Most music directors have done
that, but in most cases it is literally
like a karaoke singing. Their lack of vocal
training and control are clearly exposed
in many songs with their inability to reach
the notes which they have created as music
directors but not able to perform as vocalists.
2. Using singers from
other regions to sing the song. There are
some singers like Shreya Goshal or Madhushree
who try their best to pronounce the nuances.
But there are many whose pronunciations
seem stylish in the beginning but are largely
annoying after a few songs.
3. Using heroes and heroines
to sing part of the songs. Unless the hero
is an SPB or an Unnikrishnan, this again
is karaoke singing which is basically to
target the star's audience but is irritating
if one overlooks that.
A song is like a beautiful palace or a statue,
the music director leveraging all the artists
to build the magnificent structure. As a
fan, it is quite saddening to see that structure
being painted (vocalized) by someone who
cannot match the brilliance of the creator.
Hence it is my humble opinion that the best
singers should be chosen to render the songs.
