Felt this is the best of Selvaraghavan’s movies till now. It catapults the Director to a different league specifically in certain delicate subjects he handles in a subtle way. Dhanush can be given another Award for his acting…in my view, it exceeds his Aadukalam performance in many ways... Mr.Ramji’s work behind the camera is noteworthy.
There is a never a drag moment in the film. Songs are never an intrusion and is well placed. Also, all the songs are good and hummable which is a rarity these days. Dress sense of Karthik and Yamini are well done….except in some scenes where Karthiks’s lungis are very new!!!
Perspective of Yamini as a character is well sketched and well delivered. It’s a rarity, that beautiful heroines align with Karthik Swaminathan’s of this world…most of the times they latch on guys keeping career prospects in mind!!!
Film is equally about Yamini and how she goes by her heart like Karthik in choosing what he needs to do. In fact it’s more about Yamini and how she chooses to follow her heart…for example
• She chose Karthik when he was struggling in his profession while Sundar was well settled… • She believed in his abilities even after the accident…she worked for his success parallely • She stopped talking with him after the major fiasco leading to her losing her unborn child • She forgives Karthik’s friend and realizes these are natural temptations of men…it needs a generous outlook to be that way like Osho mentions frequently
In fact Karthik speech attributing his success to Yamini is well placed and reflects Yamini’s strength.
Karthik Swaminathan is a good name for the character. He felt happiness in his work while the challenge or problem in his character is he wanted to be successful and more importantly famous. It goes directly against the Osho’s philosophy of people who are passionate find happiness in work and not bother about whether it is giving them material success or fame. This excessive obsession with fame/success had led to Karthik's erratic behavior and creates turmoil in his personal life. We can understand that the Director’s challenge in the plot. Good film and refreshing in many aspects…don’t miss to watch. Sri Ram advsriram@googlemail.com
