What do you anticipate when you go into a theatre to watch a crime thriller by ‘Mysskin’ after the fantastic ‘Anjathey’ ?? Another awe inspiring police story ?? Lots of twists ?? Emotion ?? Violence ?? Realism and Perfection ?? Clarity of logic which blows you off ??  Another ‘yellow sari item number ?? Well, ‘Yudham Sei’ is all that and more !!! It gets you to the edge of seat right from the outset and grips you to the splendidly scripted climax …. Miss even one scene and you are off track …

The movie has a slow and silent presentation with very few dialogues but you DON’T lose interest. You are left guessing the players and the game itself right from the word go and the revelation of the suspense leaves you tantalized. The protagonist (Cheran plays the role of a lifetime, a never-seen-before performance ) is a frustrated CBCID officer who is forced to take up a very  different and high profile assignment. The characters are so well etched that you feel you are trying to solve the case alongside him with the mysterious clues you get as the story unfolds…

The emotions on screen can be felt as the characters appear to change colors frequently. YG Mahendra astonishes you and Jayaprakash fits his role ‘to a T’. Manickavinayagam portrays the antagonist and has been aptly cast. Many more characters go on and off the screen but even then it is not confusing for the viewer. In fact, it compels you to contemplate.

Going into the technical details, the background score (K) is haunting and pertinent to the movie. In reality, it acts as a decoration for the scenes. The cinematography (Sathya) is brilliant and the camera spoke a lot more than the characters. That every scene has taken a lot of hard work is evident from the brilliant screenplay (similar to Anjathey) . The action in the movie depicts reality and is commendable. The situational humor at certain points comes as a good relief in the midst of all the tension !!!

Finally, what are the disappointments? For one, the ‘yellow saree item number’ is not as good as in Mysskin’s earlier movies . I was also disappointed as I could not cheer for the director’s name which did not appear on screen.

THE VERDICT : Yudham Sei is a classic and redefines Tamil cinema . A must watch for the lovers of true cinema. I, for one, will be watching the movie again just to observe the fine detailing by the director.

So, what are you waiting for?? Put your thinking caps on and head to the nearest theatre coz Tamil cinema is now truly ‘WORLD CLASS’ !!

PS : The movie deserves to be watched only in a theatre !!! Please don’t download or watch in a dvd !!!
