Year 2011 comes to an end. Here is a flashback of the year.

2011 is certainly a good year for Tamil cinema. Tamil cinema bagged 13 national awards. Really, a great achievement. Aadukalam bagged 6 including best actor and director while Thenmerkuparuvakaatru bagged 3 including best actress. Tamil cinema has come a long way.

Let us lookout at some of the films which made impact.

Siruthai-A complete masala entertainer which was a huge hit among B and C centers. Santhanam's comedy and racy screenplay big plus for the film.

Kavalan-This saw the return of Vijay. Remake of Malayalam film Bodyguard, the film was different from earlier Vijay films and went onto become a hit. Vijay's acting and Vadivelu's comedy drew attention of all.

Aadukalam-The film which brought 6 national awards to Tamil cinema. It's no mean and easy effort. The film is about rural cock fight and about the people involved in those fight. Dhanush's award winning acting, GV Prakash's soulful music and Velraj's cinematography were talked much after the release. Vetrimaran's bibliography at the credits, first of its kind, is laudable.

Payanam-The film about hijack of an airplane had its share of humor and went on to become a hit. Good screenplay, neat story by Radhamohan made the film a family entertainer.

Yutham sei- A thriller/mystery by Mysskin. Different screenplay, great background music are the big positives of the film. Cheran's acting was commendable.

Ko-After a few hits in the year, Ko marked the first blockbuster of the year. KV Anand, Suba and Harris Jayaraj joined together after Ayan and film was most expected. The film didn't disappoint and went on to become blockbuster with good screenplay and cinematography. Jiiva's market improved considerably after the film. Of course, Kuviamilla went on to become song of the year is different story.

Avan Ivan-Though the film didn't satisfy the audience, it was talked about for Vishal's squint-eyed performance. Vishal proved his acting skills and is tipped to feature in Bala's next film too!

Deiva Thirumagal- Perhaps movie of the year. Though the story is adapted from an English film, the film impressed everyone. Vikram is expected to bag another national award. The film bought tears on all the faces and became a hit.

Kanchana-The sequel to average grosser Muni. It's the most surprising hit of the year. It impressed all and went on to become blockbuster and the latest news is that Lawrence already started Muni-3.

Mankatha- The most expected film of the year went onto become most profitable film of the year, The film had a great opening thanks to Ajith factor. Ajith playing as a baddie without even caring for his image. Venkat Prabhu directing a big star for the first time (that too 50th) didn't disappoint anybody.

Engeyum Eppodhum- The film directed by new comer Saravanan and produced by AR Murugadoss got good reviews from all and ran to full packed house for a long time.

Vagai Sooda Vaa- Perhaps, the most under-estimated film. The film was set in 1960s and directed by Kalavani fame Sargunam. The film had a great story, music and everything but sadly unable to become commercially profitable.

Velayutham- The film impressed all the Vijay fans and was most profitable Vijay film till date. The film released for Diwali and is still running successfully. Vijay's Nanban is most expected film now.

7am Arivu-The film was expected a lot with high promotion but disappointed some people. Still film made good money and Murugadoss moved onto his next project with Vijay.

Mayakkam Enna- The magical Selva-Dhanush combo returns once again and the film impressed many. The songs became huge hit, the main reason for film's success.
