Dear Asin,

I am not sure whether you will read this or not. I would be glad, if you happen to read it. I thought of sharing some of my thoughts with you on your Bollywood journey. I have been reading some articles regarding your career in Bollywood. I am feeling happy for your success in Bollywood. You are sharing the top position in the 100 crore club with Kareena with 4 films to your credit. Undoubtedly, 4 successes out of 5 movies is something to be really applauded. But, what is your significant contribution to these movies? Are these movies successful because of you or you just happened to be in successful movies?

I found that you have a very little role in all these movies and your presence is not impactful except Ghajini. I read that you were not the initial choice to do Ghajini (Hindi) movie and another heroine was signed and few scenes with her were already canned which were not satisfactory. Then, Aamir who is a perfectionist demanded A R Murugadoss to cast you for the role as you have done fully justice to the role in the Tamil version. Indeed, I agree with him. You were awesome in that movie and you created a storm when the movie released in Hindi. You stole the show and became a heartthrob of many overnight. How it could happen? Bollywood people were immensely convinced by your ability to perform. Bollywood audiences were getting tired and bored with the glam and glitzy heroines. Your spontaneity and bubbly way of carrying the role was an eye opener for many. But what happened after that? You fell into the trap of ‘Bollywood’ heroines looking pretty by wearing glamorous costumes and appear to be sexy. Your role in ‘Ready’, ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Bol Bachan’ was merely an eye candy.

If you are doing this for your survival in Bollywood, then I would like to highlight to you that those who remain as evergreen Diva of B’wood are those with great acting potential.  For example, Tabu, Madhuri Dixit, Shabana Azmi, Nanditha Das, Aishwarya Rai, Kajol and Rani.  For your information, many southern heroines have made their entry to B’wood movies but not all can make it to the top.  Those who made it to the top i.e. Vyjayanthimala, Hemamalini, Sridevi and recent sensation Vidyabalan are successful because of their acting capacity and not for oozing glamour on the screen. I strongly believe that you have the potential to follow their footsteps. Please go for more character oriented roles.

I also came across your interview saying that you don't want to be repetitive down south. I am not sure how true it was but I just want to make a point that your role in “Housefull 2’ and ‘Ready’ are almost the same. I believe that you are not getting a variety of roles in B’wood either. I am sure that South has given you more exciting and variety of roles i.e. a Malayali girl in M. Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi, talkative Iyer girl in Dasavatharam, intense role in Kaavalan, very straight forward college going girl in Ullam Ketkume and so on. Even your glamorous roles like in Pokkiri, Godfather, Vel and Sivakasi had some scenes in which you made your mark.

Moreover, nowadays many movies made in South are being remade into Hindi. Even all your recent movies are remade from South movies. Therefore, it shows that South does make good movies and offer variety of roles. Please consider to make more south films too. I am not saying that you should leave Hindi movies but I believe that you should know how to balance your movies in Hindi and south.

I like your movies and your acting. I just thought of sharing my thoughts with you. My sincere apologies if any of my words hurt your feelings. I did not mean to do that.

Hope to see you more in South movies and more character roles in Indian movies (including North and South).

Thank you.
