What makes a movie successful? May
appear to be a stupid question, but
the amount of responses that it can
draw from different people will surely
justify the question. There are people
who think that story is of paramount
importance, some others may go for
the director, others think stars are
the most important and some people,
even though a minority, think of technical
perfection as the single most important
factor.
Well,
the success of a movie may depend on any of these
or many of these; but, how do we remember a movie
that we liked? Not by the director, the star,
the story or the script. It is as simple as the
title of the movie. Yet, giving an apt title for
a movie is not child’s play. Most of the
Tamil films releasing nowadays have pretty unimaginative
titles. Most of the time it is the name of the
lead character in the movie, or it is a popular
refrain from a previously superhit song, or in
certain cases it is the name of a place. But,
there have been titles that have been truly memorable
and time immortal. A look at some of the most
creatively thought over and meaningfully baptized
titles in Tamil cinema. Since listing all of them
is next to impossible, we are presenting only
