A tribute to a legend who raised Tamil
cinema above the ordinary by his acting
skills. One man who never had a peer;
Sivaji Ganesan. The government had
planned to erect his statue at Marina
beach. When the statue was finally
ready to be erected, opposition came
from a few quarters. No one could
ever imagine that erecting a statue
to a legend would invite opposition.
This
finally ended in a courtroom battle with the government
being asked by Chennai High Court to look for
a different site. But tireless Kalaignar and DMK
government finally managed to get the green signal
for erecting the statue at the eleventh hour from
the court. After months of speculation, the statue
of Sivaji Ganesan finally took its place on Marina
Beach. A fitting place for a legend. The unveiling
of the statue was a grand event witnessed by the
high and mighty of the industry.
