It
has been raining heavily since Diwali. For
the past two weeks, the continuous rain
and floods have forced people to stay indoors.
Diwali and Ramzan being festive seasons,
witness people spending money on entertainment.
But, statistics has shown that of all the
Diwali releases, only Vijay’s Sivakasi
has taken a bumper opening. Others have
not lived up to the hype created
in the media. Distributors and theater owners
especially in small towns like Salem and
Coimbatore are worried about their returns.
They have said that if thin attendance continues,
they may end up with heavy losses as they
have bought the films by paying huge sums.
They also fear that pirated versions will
become easily available and people would
be content to watch the film staying at
home due to the rains. Sivakasi has once
again established Vijay’s credentials
as a mass hero. The film has all the usual
ingredients of a masala film.
