Pattiyal Music review : Another addition to Yuvan’s Pattiyal of hits?

Picturization might play a key role for the songs to be a hit!!

Music review : Pattiyal

Pattiyal produced by ‘Punnagai Poo’ Gheetha for S.G Films Pvt Ltd is directed by “Arindum Ariyamalum” fame Vishnuvardan. It is much anticipated with young heroes Arya and Bharath in the lead. A glimpse of things to come was given in the audio which was released this week. Yuvan Shankar Raja who is keeping a scorching pace with a string of hits has set Pa. Vijay’s lyrics to music in Pattiyal.
Dei Namma (Vijay Yesudas)

The album starts with a fast-paced track matched equally by peppy words; Dei Namma can be taken as usual kuthu pattu, to make the youngsters break into a jig in the theatres. Vijay Yesudas has sung well to suit the mood of the song. The chorus with the constant clapping in the background is a novelty of the song.
Yuvan Shankar Raja
Yedhedho (Yuvanshankar Raja, Shwetha)

The prelude of the song has a glimpse of Raja’s 16 Vayathinalae ‘Senthoora poove..’ Yuvan has taken shades from his father’s music, which he might have felt to be better than Western albums(to which he often turns). The song has a uniform flow with sober tune. Not too many jerks between the octaves. Yuvan’s voice is perfect for this love song and Shwetha the female singer has given good support by underplaying her voice. Yedhedho is a piece for people who long for soft melody.

Kannai Vittu (remix) Yuvanshankar Raja, Premji

Starting with fumbled English sentences and happening music in the background Kannai Vittu is a remix straight from Yuvan’s stable. The lines, ‘this is how we do if you don’t like then you are a fool’ are an indication of the attitude of the GenY. The semi English chorus and the initial humming are the highlights of Kannai Vittu. The orchestra group has given the right kind of chirping to the tune. A lively number by Yuvan.

Poga Poga (Haricharan,Vijay Yesudas, Saindhavi, Harini Sudhakar)

Beginning of the song seems to be westernized and faintly resembles Kannai Vittu number. But like the lines Poga Poga, the song leads to pallavi and sharnam and gets more attractive. The credit goes to Pa.Vijay’s lyrics which have imbibed friendly thoughts and confidence. As for voice modulation Haricharan seem slightly better than Vijay Yesudas though both the voices blend well. As for Saindhavi practice can make her future more promising. Harini authoritative chorus mix has enliven the song. The music on Nadashwaram is been aptly used in the middle of the song, makes an alluring impact.

Kannai Vittu (Yuvanshankar Raja)

The solo performance featuring Yuvan himself seem to be better than remix, Yes without the semi English chorus the solo might give more impact to the listeners than the remix. As said earlier the initial chorus ‘Oh..ooo’ is haunting. Kannai Vittu has a soothing effect.

Namma Kaatula (Illayaraja, Roshni)

The song is beyond doubt the stealer of the show. With the initial Hindi verses “Namma Kaatula Mazhai Mazhai Peiyuthu” in Isai Gnani Illyaraja’s voice with background sample of “Aaduludan Padalai” song of M.S. Vishwanathan seems to be a different pick on the whole lot. Not being a full remix this semi usage of the classic MGR hit would definitely set a new trend in the Tamil music scenario. Being a ‘thathuvam’ song with Pa Vijay’s viable lyrics, Isai Gnani voice especially his deliberate lag between each words and Roshni’s dominant vocal with the blend of just Ahah! Ahah! Of Aaduladan, Namma Kaatula seems to be an effective ‘cocktail’ which is bound to win audience hearts.

As a whole the Pattiyal film songs though as usual characteristic of Yuvan’s music like a remix, forlorn love song and melody has fulfilled the essentials with one extraordinary piece ‘Namma Kaatula’. But using same voices for two to three songs seem to lack variety and his remix songs with repetitive English jargons, the clapping sound for every other song in the background can be avoided. Pa.Vijai appears to be director’s lyricist; he has streamlined the emotions aptly. ‘Pattiyal’ appears to be more than average grabber in terms of music but picturization might play a key role for the songs to be a hit. With the banning of trailers and songs telecast can make things tough for ‘Pattiyal’.
