Strike in Bollywood hits Bangalore
May 09, 2009

The multiplex strike in Bollywood has affected the multiplexes in Bangalore. Sounds strange, but true. With no Hindi releases and the regional films not doing well at the box office, the multiplexes in Bangalore are in a fix. The multiplex owners lament that the spiraling maintenance costs and decline in the collections are a major factor. The multiplexes were able to attract the audiences for just four films – Junglee, a Kannada film, Ayan (Tamil) and Billa and Arundathi (Telugu). According to an official of the PVR Multiplex, “Only new Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films are attracting occupancy ratios of more than 30 percent.”
