the IPL.
Can a movie on cricket wean people away
from the real game?
Coming onto a playing field that is nearly
empty after a few very disappointing releases,
Jannat stands very bright chances of making
it big. Buoyed by a theme that has the potential
to grab the eyeballs and the whole country
in the grip of a cricket frenzy, Jannat
does look like hit material. But of course,
the movie has to be a well made one, no
exceptions on that. Stars Emraan Hashmi
and Javed Sheikh.
From Last Week
Bhoothnath
The Big B’s ‘bhooth’ act
hasn’t set the box office on fire
but it surely has managed to stem the horror
run of Bollywood. Opening to a very average
response, it has picked up over the week
aided by the vacation crowd and the brand
of a family entertainer. Will have to wait
another week to enter the safety zone. Bigger
things were expected!
Jimmy
Jimmy turned out to be the actual ‘bhooth’
of Bollywood over the past week, sending
horror waves across the industry. The dream
launch pad for Mithun Chakravorthy’s
son has turned turtle and the talk is that
such a tawdry product has not come out in
recent times. A disastrous start for Mimoh.
Once again the IPL, now into the more gripping
stage, has robbed cinema halls of audiences.
Sneak Preview:
Dhoom Dadakka
Looks like another full-length comedy strewn
with a lot of below the belt stuff for the
frontbenchers. Going by the way the other
movies are slumping, this genre seems to
be a safe one to go along with. Starring
controversy queen Rakhi Sawant along with
other comic veterans like Sathish Shah and
Anupam Kher, the movie is not expected to
create any great Dhoom at the box office.
Don Muthuswami
A fortnight after his son’s movie
bombed at the box office, dad Mithun Chakravorthy
hits theaters with Don Muthuswami. No, this
is not another don movie. Yes, Mithun does
play a don but not the regular one. This
don has a strong comic streak. Look out
for a few laughs.
Ghatothkach
Singeetam Sreenivasa Rao is back, this time
with animation. After the encouraging success
of Hanuman and Hanuman Returns, it is time
for Ghatothkach. This one should be another
fun filled children’s animation movie
and in the last week of the summer vacations,
the children will definitely enjoy this
one. Being simultaneously released in 7
languages, the movie has music by Singeetam
Sreenivasa Rao himself. A mythological animation
fun ride.
