A British television channel - Channel 4,
recently came up with a list of top 50 films
to see before you die. The list not only featured
English movies but also from other languages
too. The ranking had classics like Apocalypse
Now, the Shawshank redemptions, Pulp fiction,
City of god and many more; amidst all these
biggies sitting at a comfortable 14th position
was our very own Aamir khan starrer - “Lagaan”.

The Oscar nominated movie was considered the first Indian
Masterpiece of the 21st century. Not only did it find
patronage in India, but also gathered many awards and
recognition in the International front too. Now after
six years of its release, it has got this rare honor.
Lagaan was about a cricket game played by the Indians
against the British, for the exemption of tax in the pre-independence
era. In spite of an anti British theme, the movie has
featured in the top 50 chosen by a British channel. This
is testimony to the universal theme and beautiful filming
of the movie.
But Lagaan has not just wooed UK but US too. Rottentomatoes.com,
the famous Hollywood movie site came up with the “All
time top sports movies” and Lagaan was placed in
the 8th position ahead of the Oscar award winners Rocky
and Million dollar baby. This is indeed a proud moment
for India. Indian movies are finally getting noticed by
the world over, thanks to Ashutosh Gowariker the director
and Aamir khan the actor-producer of this epic movie.
