The Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences (AMPAS) president Sid
Ganis revealed that Oscar nominations
for the Best Feature Film will be
doubled from the next year onwards.
This means 10 films will be nominated
hence forth.
It is worth mentioning here that
the last time ten feature films
were nominated was in the year 1943.
Ganis said, “After more than
six decades the Academy is returning
to some of its earlier roots when
a wider field competed for the top
award of the year… Having
10 Best Picture nominees is going
to allow Academy voters to recognize
and include some of the fantastic
movies that often show up in the
other Oscar categories but have
been squeezed out of the race for
the top prize.” Sources say
that the expansion is in line with
the high competition for the coveted
award.
