The sequel summer is far from over. The glut
of sequels seems to be never ending. The latest
in the long list to be released in 2007 is
Evan Almighty; sequel to the 2003 hit comedy
Bruce Almighty. The movie which has supposed
to be a comedy has not managed to raise many
laughs and the response has been quite mixed.
The absence of Jim Carrey is a big minus from
the first part.

The sequel waiting to release next week is Bruce Willis’
attempt to force himself back into Hollywood’s action
heroes list. Live Free or Die Hard is a title that aptly
sums up Bruce Willis’ star status. He is trying
to rework the magic of years back by returning to the
past itself.
But the biggest sequel awaiting viewers in the coming
weeks is none other than Harry Potter and the Order of
the Phoenix which is set to release on July 11th. Potter
mania is sure to get the film a good opening but from
then on, the quality of the movie will have to talk. There
will also be the regular cribs about how the movie is
not faithful enough to the book and many incidents in
the book that were not depicted. Also Daniel Radclyffe,
Rupert Grint and Emma Watson who had almost outgrown their
characters in The Goblet of Fire might not look as convincing
as 16 year olds. Expectations surrounding this movie are
really high all over the world.
And that’s not all. A sequel to Indiana Jones seems
to be round the corner and in a recent interview Johnny
Depp did say that given the right kind of script and setting
he would be very glad to play Captain Jack Sparrow once
again. Is that enough to give Walt Disney ideas? After
all Pirates can rise from their graves, even from the
depths of the oceans. Like it or not, sequels are here
to stay.
