Weaker opposition in the form of Aawarapan nearly buckled
down under the pressure. But Apne took all the punches
that were rained in the first week and has come out to
emerge the winner or at least a close contender in the
second round. Apne has certainly given back what it got
from Aap Ka Suroor in the first week. It has raced ahead
of AKS in the overseas market and trade analysts believe
that by the end of this week it would have done the same
in the Bombay circuit too and all this has happened silently.
Meanwhile the industry bigwigs are falling over each other
in support of Apne. Directors like Karan Johar and Rajkumar
Hirani have said great things about the movie, something
that has certainly lifted the way the public is viewing
Apne. Critics have already started discussing the prospects
of Dharmendra being nominated in this year’s Best
supporting actor category for all the major awards, remember
it is only midway through 2007 and it is mighty early
to start talking about awards. This is Dharmendra’s
second acclaimed performance in a row after he really
impressed everyone with his role in Life in a Metro. He
is not done yet, he may have taken a long break, dabbled
in politics but he certainly has not let dust gather on
his acting skills. This year he has another movie titled
Johny Gaddar lined up. Dharam is still Garam. |
