Ram Gopal Varma's penchant for remakes continues.
Having tasted success with the remake of The
Godfather, released as Sarkar, the ace-director's
eyes rested on Sholay. But it's not a cakewalk
for Varma as expected. The latest buzz is
that there has been a goof-up with the copyrights
issue, which resulted in Varma and the Sippys
fighting it out in the courts.

With the copyrights issue looming large Varma has now
chalked out a plan to divulge himself from all legal tangles.
The remake, which was initially titled as Ram Gopal Varma
Ke Sholay has now been changed to Ram Gopal Varma Ke Aag.
Other notable changes are: Gabbar Singh to Baban singh;
Soorma Bhopali to Rambhabhai; and Sambha to Tambhe. Unlike
the original version, Ram Gopal Varma Ke Aag's story revolves
in the urban setting.
Coming to the star cast, debutant Prashant Raj will play
Amitabh's role. Ajay Devgan has been roped-in to play
Dharmendra's character, Nisha Kothari will step into Hema
Malini's shoes, Sushmita Sen will play Jaya Bachchan's
character, the Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is set to
play the Sanjeev Kumar's character. And surprise of surprises,
the hero of the original - Big B, will play the role of
the most dreaded villain Gabbar Singh essayed so excellently
by Amjad Khan in the original version.
