One
of the pioneers of background music
in Bollywood, O.P. Nayyar passed away
yesterday in Thane. Creator of the
famous hits of all times such as ‘Mera
Naam Chin Chin Choo’, ‘Ankhon
Hi Ankhon Main, and ‘Pukarta
Chala Hoon Main’, Nayyar’s
romantic numbers mesmerized the fans
and critics alike.
Born in January 26, 1926 in Lahore, Nayyar’s
career commenced with Kaneez in 1949. He went
on to reign Hindi cinema with his unique numbers
until he bid goodbye to the music scene in the
1970s. Considered to be responsible for elevating
the careers of playback singers like Asha Bhonsle,
Rafi, and Geeta Dutt, Nayyar, for reasons unknown,
never worked with Lata Mangeshkar. Nayyar’s
music is influenced with Piano, Saxophone, and
unique rhythms.
Nayyar was last seen in the TV show Sa Re Ga Ma.
