Corporate,
and organized begging in Human Traffic –it
isn’t so hard to predict that Fashion
is going to be a critique of the burgeoning
fashion industry in India. He has the entire
crew sworn to secrecy. When the new kid
on the block, Neil Mathur, visited the director
on the sets, speculations were rife about
his involvement in Fashion. Later, the actor
confirmed that it was just a casual chat.
Fashion is constantly in the news for all
the tense secrecy shrouding it, where any
piece of information leaked to the press
(like a shot detail) turns up in print.
The director is also worried that all this
hype and unwanted attention could kill the
film’s chances at the box office,
or worse, have a rival movie on the fashion
industry come out before his.
Kangana Ranaut’s now famous ‘wardrobe
malfunction’ (the actress’ slip
falls down) as she walks down the ramp in
a scene from Fashion, has already generated
huge talk. Ms. Ranaut’s boldness –
basically, consenting to do this herself
rather than a body double – is being
seen by some people as brazen. However,
Bhandarkar is determined to push ahead with
filming, hoping for a grand, overwhelming
reception unsullied by hype.
