Deepa Mehata's Water failed to win the Oscar but not before it made Indians proud by getting into the final rounds as a nomination from Canada. The movie that had John Abrahm and Lisa Ray in the lead lost to Germany's "The Lives of Others" in the foreign language category.
Readers would remember that the crew had to shoot the movie in Srilanka owing to protests from various political corners in India. Though the movie could not emerge as the winner, most of the movie personalities who saw the movie were very much impressed and appreciated the crew for their work. Though water has lost, it has won many acclaim for the Indian film industry though the movie was a Canadian entry.
