However
he seems to have taken the positives out of Rang
de Basanti.
He is of the opinion that the film was a big success
in that it impressed the audience that it was
targeted at. True, the film was an out and out
commercial aimed at the masses. It received overwhelming
response from the masses, but RDB became a sensation,
a cult because it was able to kindle the fire
of nationalism in the belly of every Indian who
watched the movie.
Aamir Khan said that the recognition that the
movie got from the people was the real Oscar that
he got and that he was satisfied. But then, movies
that go down in history are the ones that manage
to win the big awards as well as people’s
hearts. Aamir can take heart from the fact that
RDB has manage to do the latter. Also, his measured
response seems to indicate that he has matured
a lot from the days of Lagaan. He had been disappointed
when the movie failed to win the Oscar for best
foreign film. Maybe we could have got a more expressive
response had someone cared to look beyond Aamir
and ask director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra or producer
Ronnie Screwwala about RDB. |
