First
of all, hats off to the director and the producer
who had the guts to make a movie on such a sensitive
subject where the risk of the film being banned
outright is very bright. The film did have its
share of opposition and was dragged to the court
where after a long drawn legal battle common sense
prevailed and the protestors were asked to mind
their own business.
Capturing the Mumbai of 1993 in 2006 was the biggest
challenge according to director Anurag Kashyap.
He said that to picturize the city as it was in
93 without too many fancy billboards and mobile
phones was a very tough job. He also added that
to get the real look of the bustling city, hidden
cameras had to be used to film many scenes. This
is not something new, but each director has his
own way of doing things and it will be interesting
to watch Anurag’s perspective.
The movie portrays many notorious real life characters
like Ayaz and Tiger Memon and the don Dawood Ibrahim.
Kay Kay Menon plays the lead role, that of an
investigating officer. This Friday will tell us
whether Black Friday sets the screens on fire
or just manages to ‘bomb’ at the box
office. |
