Bollywood’s
most beloved Bhai (Munna Bhai) seems
to have lady luck beside him all the
time these days. It is not to do with
his films. His films are doing well,
but more importantly he is escaping
serious punishment at the long arm
of law. By some providential or (speaking
more practically) earthbound forces
(fame or financial),
Sanjay
Dutt has been walking out of court a free man
for two weeks or more every time he has walked
in.
Facing conviction under the Arms Possession Act
which can put him behind bars for 10years or more,
Sanjay Dutt seems to resemble a cat (nine lives).
His bail has been extended thrice already and
chances of further extensions cannot be ruled
out.
All the three times, Sanjay has pleaded before
the court that he is the sole bread winner of
his family and that he has a young daughter to
take care of. He also cites that many producers
have invested a lot of money on him. The latest
hearing that was held on Tuesday extended his
bail by a day and was put off till Wednesday,
the chances of him going free till March appearing
bright.
But, outside the court, Sanjay Dutt did not have
the usual crowd of doting fans waiting for him.
Instead, he had an angry mob that was protesting
the preferential treatment being meted out to
him on account of his celebrity status. The mob
consisted mostly of family members of people who
had been convicted along with Sanjay in the serial
blasts case. Most of these people are still behind
bars. Their relatives were understandably incited
at seeing Sanjay walking away free while their
kith and kin rotted behind bars. The next hearing
is awaited.
