This
one was expected. Only the announcement
was awaited. Parzania will not be
shown in any of the theatres in Gujarat.
The movie, directed by Rahul Dholakia
and starring Nasseruddin Shah deals
with the Gujarat communal riots of
2001.
When
the movie was completed and ready for release,
activists of a political party in Gujarat had
expressed their displeasure over the theme of
the movie. Knowing the pretty unfriendly disposition
of the political activists, the exhibitors of
Gujarat hesitated to screen the movie. Later,
a consortium of the multiplex owners of Gujarat
came together to take a decision. After watching
the movie they came out with their decision today.
Well, it was a foregone conclusion; the movie
will not be shown on screens in the state.
This is the second time in as many years that
movie buffs in Gujarat will be missing a good
movie due to political issues. The earlier one
being the Aamir Khan starrer Fanaa; due to the
Narmada Bachaao issue. Let’s hope that politics
stays clear of the films or even vice versa. No
one wants to miss a good movie just because it
does not agree with the ideology of a political
party however big or small it is.
