After
his widely unnoticed debut in his home production,
Jeeva made his comeback with ‘Ram’
and ‘Dishyum’ and both did not do
wrong to his career by proving to be hits. |
|
Jeeva
is back with his magic this time again in his
military green to flex his patriotic muscles
with the terrorists and proves his mettle both
as an actor and as the young and honest soldier
‘Jayakumar’ in Aran.
Directed
by the then Indian Army Major, Ravi, the movie
throws light on the life of an honest soldier
‘Jayakumar’ whilst taking us through
the otherwise untouched subjects in Indian army
by directors like the peace talks, terrorist
activities fuelled by our neighbouring nation,
the bloodshed in the name of Jihad and the appalling
incidents that question human rights in the
warn torn Kashmir. Ravi was also involved in
the operation carried out to nail the criminal
‘Sivarajan’ of Rajiv Gandhi’s
murder case.

Flag
waver spirit
Ravi claims that the movie is out of his own experience
in the Indian army and states that he wants people
to be aware of the hardships an army man endures
to guarantee peace in his motherland. The movie
opens up with the commendable narration of Kamalhasan,
which indeed sows curiosity. |

|
Jeeva is the vibrant and loyal soldier ‘Jayakumar’
under the leadership of ‘Mahadevan’
played by versatile ‘Mohanlal’.
Jayakumar comes back home for a vacation
and eventually for his marriage with a simple
village girl played by ‘Gopika’.
Duty takes the front seat when he is called
for by the army on the fourth day of his
wedding. Jayakumar, with no second thoughts
returns to his duty to serve his part in
the ongoing operation against the terrorists
who plan to tear down the mosque in Kashmir
and thereby to set off religious outbreak.
Mahadevan’s team is summoned for and
the battle to nail down the terrorists begins.
The director’s nuances as an army
major prove to be a gift on his part to
present the Kashmir situation before our
eyes. The atrocities that are staged in
the otherwise heavenly valley are portrayed
shockingly real. |
|
|
|
Scenes like the mother being forced
to cook for the terrorists after her daughter
was raped by them in front of her eyes and the
kid who comes in search of his raped mother, being
killed by the militants are just instances of
the abhorrent reality that happens in Kashmir
and what has become a part of the people’s
daily life.
In the process of the operation, Jeeva sacrifices
himself to save the life of Mahadevan stating
that an officer like Mahadevan is rare in the
military service whilst soldiers like him are
aplenty. |

Untold
stories behind Indian military scene
Director gives us a peek on the realities
of the peace talks and shockingly reveals
that peace talks are for namesake and no
soul benefits from that save for the officers
who amuse themselves under that name. He
does not fail to throw light on the scandals
that often go unnoticed. It was indeed appalling
to note that terrorists in the African prisons
are trained in the name of Jihad and let
loose into the Indian subcontinent by Pakistan.

Jeeva
wins accolades
Jeeva plays his part to near perfection and
stays afresh in our memories as a loyal and
patriot ‘Jayakumar’. Mohanlal’s
performance does not fail to sweep us over as
the dignified Mahadevan, a symbol of courage
and patriotism. The other cast in the movie
include Gopika, Lakshmi Gopalsamy, Biju Menon,
Ramesh Kanna and so on.
The
movie comes along as a fresh treat for our vision
in the otherwise bad boy dominated trend in
recent day Tamil cinema.
|
|
|
The
spirit of patriotism always wins over our hearts
and when it is crafted to perfection by none other
than an army Major, no questions raised about
the credibility of the movie arises. The movie
is also made in Malayalam under the name ‘Keerthi
Chakra’. |
|
|
Final
word
Major Ravi’s venture is sure to be
applauded without questioning the commercial
viability of the movie. Whether or not the
movie strikes a chord in the box office
it definitely is going to be in the good
books of the public and eventually to the
benefit of, if not anyone else, Jeeva. |
