Produced
by Khushboo and directed by Sundar.C.,
this film stars Sundar.C and Anuya Bagawath
in lead roles and Vadivelu and others
in supporting roles. Vairamuthu has penned
all the lyrics and Sai Thaman has composed
the music for this film. The album lists
six tracks.
Thikki Thikki...
Vocals: Ranjith,
Megha
A soft number with pleasing string work
and gentle rhythms. You are able to savour
the lyrics that speak of shy, budding
love, on the Natabairavi scale. The mild
shifting of scale towards the end probably
hint at the heightening of emotions.
Yen Peru...
Vocals: Priya
Hemesh
Certainly a ‘nautch girl’
number, but there is something about the
way it has been put together in the Sankarabaranam
scale that keeps our |

comfort level intact while listening to it. Don’t
be surprised if it pops up briefly on the charts.
Kuthudhu...
Vocals: Naveen
Madhav
Hmm, amusing lyrics here! Kudos to Thaman for working
out an interesting rhythm pattern around it so that
you don’t strain to listen to them. Well sung
too. The same Natabairavi scale but look at the variety
he offers! The rap part has been used innovatively.
Pudicha...
Vocals: Rahul
Nambiar, Sri Vardhini
The lyrics are downright cheesy and this is where
the album wobbles. Thankfully the neat percussions,
trumpet and the delightfully breezy Karaharapriya
raga notes( ma dha pa ma ga ri; sa ni sa ri ni sa
etc;) add cheer to this crude duet. Why, Sundar?
Iraivaa...
Vocals: Rahul Nambiar, Ranjith, Naveen
Madhav
The minimal use of instrumental interludes and tight
rhythms hint at mild tension and an inner tussle.
Neat blending of voices.
Theme of Love...
Vocals:
A soft awakening of love in the lady’s heart.
The instruments are suitably subdued.
Verdict:
Thaman is certainly emerging as a very ‘ear-friendly’
composer with every album of his. Firmly grounded
in aesthetics, he should now look to slowly expanding
the musical depth in his songs. This uneven album
is evidence enough though we don’t know what
the director needed. |
