The dubbed version of the Telugu movie “Oh My Friend” is getting a release in Tamil thanks to the star status of the lead players – Siddharth, Hansika and Shruti Haasan. Music has been provided by Rahul Raj, prominent Malayalam composer. Now onto an analysis of this dubbed movie’s soundtrack. Natpukkillai Ellai… Silambarasan A song high on feeling and Silambarasan is a past master at infusing his heart and soul into any song that he sings. The way the song begins at high pitch is terrific. STR’s singing style is not text-bookish but it appeals for sure. This short number on friendship is trendy and might strike a chord with youngsters Uyirin Suvarl Naane… Suraj, Saindhavi A beautiful melody which has a nice tempo, catchy beats and some mellifluous string instrumentals. Saindhavi sounds very fresh and when Suraj goes ‘Ho Un Punnagai’ in the high pitch, it compliments her beautifully. Previous songs in this ‘raaga’ have been very melodious and this one will be another worthy addition to the list. Poove Neeyoru Vaarthai… Vijay Yesudas A song that talks about the conflicts between love and friendship & Vijay Yesudas infuses the required earnestness to it. He reminds us of his legendary father and that speaks of the stature of this talented singer. The instrumentals are in line with the melancholic mood of the song. Siruvan Sirumiyai… Aalap Raju, Rita The hero wonders how a girl whom he has seen as a friend since childhood suddenly has become the subject of his romantic interest. A light hearted song, more like friendly banter, and the song doesn’t take itself too seriously. It looks like the team had fun putting together this song. It reflects in our listening experience as well. En Daddy Pocket… Rahul Nambiyar A proper rock song with the required heavy guitar usage, enthusiastic singing, thumping beats and the works. Definitely an uplifting experience, this one is, with the crowd effects adding to the mood. Rahul Nambiar sounds authentic in his rock avatar. Oh Oh My Friend Aalap Raju Another song high on tempo and energy. The guitar and the beats set the pace for this song straightaway. Aalap Raju delivers the required spirited brand of singing for this number that is on fast track mode. The guitar notes at the end are fitting. Vegam Vegam Vegam… Suraj, Priya Himesh As the lyrics indicate, this song is fittingly fast. Doesn’t make much of an impression despite the decent effort from the singers. Too hurried maybe. There is a catchy rap thrown into the mix to add some spice to the song.
Verdict: The album doesn’t sound as if the songs are dubbed versions. They sound authentic and original. Kudos to the lyrics team for that. Musically, the album has a good mix of melodic and fast songs and it’s worth a shot...
