Produced
by P.S. Sekar Reddy and directed by Nanda
Periasami, this movie stars Harish, Alex,
Gopal and Visak along with Shammu. Gurukalyan
scores the music and we have six songs
in the album. Snehan has penned the lyrics.
Dhom Dhom...
Vocals: Kalyan
A neat ‘songlet’ that hints
of love and heart-thudding. Melodic use
of Nalinakanti raga, flute and strings.
Aathili Pithili...
Vocals: Malathi, Suresh, Kalyan,
Sadha
This duet is quite raunchy .The percussive
treatment and nagaswaram alone redeem
it. Meant solely for the front benchers.

Methuvai
Methuvai...
Vocals: Karthik, Jeya, Rajagopal
The operative word here is ‘methuvai’.
It drives the drizzly strings, the laidback rhythms
and the caressing voices. Thavil sounds add a sudden
touch of passion. The continued use of swaras like
‘pa ni sa’ ni ri sa’ etc; point
to the use of Sriraga in this song. Though the song
has a Telugu flavor, it is very easy on the ears.
Ponnu Iva Poottha...
Vocals: Karthikeyan, Gurukalyan
A traditional ‘kummi’ like song that announces
the ‘coming of age’ of a young girl. Charming
harmonium-like notes and thavil sounds add color to
this song with innocent lyrics. An offbeat use of
Sankarabaranam raga.
Mathithan Yosidaa...
Vocals: Prashantini,
Sathyan
The title number, so to speak, is cheery, but the
lyrics are so prosaic. The song urges to look forward
and improvise, as one moves through life. The oft-heard
‘ri ri ma ri ri sa’ and ‘sa ri pa---ma
ri sa’ notes point to Revati raga. Could perch
on the charts for a brief while.
Acham
Thavir...
Vocals: Kalyan
This song seems to be put together with lines from
Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s ‘Pudhiya Aathichoodi’
and ‘Mazhai’. Wonder why there is no acknowledgement
of it on the album. Anyway, this inspirational lyric,
based on the Kiravani raga scale has fine percussive
sounds and violins.
Verdict:
This debutant composer does show promise, judging
by his adherence to melody and neat rhythms. He should
be aware by now how much effort goes into making an
album that captures the immediate attention of listeners.
We wish him all the best. |
