Produced
by K.T.Kunjumon, directed by
C.Balaji, this film stars Theja,
Meera Nandan, Suhasini, Sarayu,
Saranraj, Ganja Karuppu along
with others. Music is by Bharadwaj,
whose ‘Asal’ has
created a stir in the market.
Ekkachakkam Ekkachakkam...
Vocals: Suchitra
Lyrics: Vaali
Right from the ‘Marhaba’
start, we feel a breezy Arabic
touch to the song but what makes
it interesting is the tidy sophistication
with which the instruments have
been put together. The sultry
invitation of a seductress who
is very sure of her own charms

Vocals: Bharadwaj,
Chitra
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A calm and unhurried assertion
of mutual love, this Aberi raga-based
song is almost mesmerizing in

appeal. A neat usage of flute, keyboards
and strings add elegance to crisp lyrics.
Bharadwaj’s voice alone sounds a trifle
nasal because of the pitch.

Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan,
Janani
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
This song stands true testimony to Bharadwaj’s
creative skills! What looks like a ‘qawwali’
mettu is married to tight western rhythms
and some lovely guitars. And all packed
into what appears to be Peelu raga. Spirited
‘sangatis ‘from Shankar Mahadevan,
of course! Janani is subdued by comparison.
A song to be truly appreciated.
Kadavule Un Kovilil...
Vocals: Benny Dayal, Surmukhi
Lyrics: Vaali
Another curious ‘fusion’ piece
where Tamilian( lyrical) sensibilities are
married to foot-tapping Spanish rhythms.
Must be a perky dance number where good
visuals can add to its appeal.

Winner thaan...
Vocals: Karthik
Lyrics: Vaali
Good motivational lyrics, Karthik’s
childlike exuberance and neat percussion
sounds define this number.
Verdict:
Bharadwaj does not give us anything startlingly
different as he did in ‘Asal’,
but his commitment to good music is evident.
The songs register themselves quietly on
our minds. |
