Produced
by Soundarya Rajinikanth and
directed by Venkat Prabhu, this
film is supposedly based on
a real life incident that happened
in Goa- the murder of a British
teenager. The star cast includes
Jai, Vaibhav Reddy, Arvind Akash,
Piaa Bajpai, Premgi Amaran,
Sneha, Marie Melanie Jobstreibitzer(
an Australian) Sampath Raj and
others. The film is supposed
to be a romantic comedy with
the unique touch of Venkat Prabhu
and has been shot in Goa, Theni
and Langkawi. Yuvan Shankar
Raja composes music for this
movie and also appears in a
song sequence. There are nine
songs in the album though not
all are likely to find a place
on screen.
Yelelu Thalamuraikkum...
Vocals: Karthik
Raja, Venkat Prabhu, Bavatharini,
Premgi Amaren, Yuvan Shankar
Raja.
Lyrics: Gangai

A
cosy little ‘family’
number, what say? A song expressing

traditional
reverence to the Supreme One. A wee bit of
family history included! Very neat usage of
tabla, native percussions and soft music makes
it delightful in spite of the familiar pattern.
Ooru Nalla Ooru...
Vocals:
Dr.Ilayaraja
Lyrics: Vaali
This song agonises over the divisive elements
that create sorrow in the life of a group
of youngsters. Very pert lyrics from Vaali
and sung with feeling by Ilayaraja. Seems
to touch upon Chakravaham raga. Again the
rhythm arrangement is very good.
Adidaa Naiyandiyae...
Vocals: S.P.Charan, Yugendran,
Vasudevan Nair.
Lyrics: Vaali
A spirited celebration of the Temple Car
festival, or so it appears. Breezy lyrics,
especially the lines’kizhisa ilaiyil
kaathu nikkadhu’ and ‘ramaraasan
nenappilae’! A folksy use what appears
to be Useni raga. But oddly, the fine nagaswaram
bits don’t blend smoothly with the
song all that well. Pretty usual stuff.
Goa...
Vocals: Krish,
Ranjith, Tanvi, Suchitra .Rapping: Chynk
Showtyme( what a name!) Pav Bundy.
Lyrics: Vaali
Fun lyrics again, from Vaali, especially
the ‘go’ ‘vaa’ part.
The song, obviously the title number, talks
of the heady cosmopolitan feel that the
place exudes and also cheekily anticipates
the success of this movie (hattrick adi).
The rhythms have a certain ‘goanese’
feel to them.
Idhu Varai...
Vocals: Ajeesh, Andrea
Lyrics: Gangai Amaren
A soft romantic number with very pleasant
music bits that again have a distinct ‘goanese’
touch to them. Though this song gives you
a ‘heard before’ feel, it has
been stylishly put together and is likely
to hit the charts soon for its unhurried
sweetness.
Vaaliba Vaa Vaa...
Vocals: Dr.Ilayaraja, Dr.S.P.Balasubramaniam,
Chitra
Lyrics: Gangai Amaren
Until Chitra begins her Reetigowla raga
humming, you are left wondering if the raga
used is Suddha Danyasi. Such is the clever
accent on the swaras’sa pa ma ga sa’
without the ‘dha’. Very jauntily
strung together, especially the catchy rhythms.
The mridangam adds an ethnic touch along
with the lovely flute notes at the end.
A song of revelry, some lines make you arch
your eyebrows- let us wait for the context
in which they are sung.
Kaadhal
Enral...
Vocals: Yuvan
Shankar Raja
Lyrics: Gangai Amaren
Obviously the cry of a jilted lover. A sweet
bit in Kiravani with neat string and guitar
notes.
Idai
Vazhi...
Vocals: Benny
Dayal, Mamta Mohandas
Lyrics: Vaali
Vaali still has plenty of youthful stuff
in him! The passion in the lyrics is well
matched by the sheer urgency in the percussions
and the song shifts gear in the second half.
We have some delectable sitar bits here.
Benny and Mamta( remember her ‘Villu’
number?) bring a lot of zest to this song.
Could hit the charts for its rhythms
Goa
(Club Mix). Remixed by Yuvan Shankar Raja...
A neat remix of song no.4. Does it play
in the very end?
Verdict:
A neat and slick album that mixes the predictable
and the pleasantly novel. Yuvan scores again
in the rhythm department. One truly wishes
the film is equally lively and fulfils Venkat
Prabhu’s ‘hattrick’ aspiration. |
