Rajapattai promises to be the film with all commercial ingredients directed by Suseenthiran based on a story by Seenu Vasan. Featuring Vikram and Deeksha Seth in the lead role, the film is being produced by Prasad V. Potluri's newly-launched PVP Cinema on a budget of 39 crores. The music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, which happens to be his 85th outing, becoming his first work for Vikram starrer. Now let’s find out how the music has turned up.
Podi Paiyyan Polave... Singers: Haricharan Lyrics: Yugabharathi
Smooth and simple in catchy vibe, the first track 'Podi Paiyyan Polave' opens Yuan's new style of maneuvers with a mild infectious feel. The tune is dispersed with funky musical arrangements, which is expected to grip the listeners. The song is cool and Haricharan's rendition is an engrossing listen.
Villaathi Villan... Singers: Mano, Malathi Lyrics: Yugabharathi
To give a modern-day perfect conman appeal, the next track 'Villaathi Villan' scores out appreciably. It sounds like the sequel to any retro style song with similar drum beats, tempo and zeal. Mano's racy flow along with Malathi's booming voice only emphasizes the fact that it sounds like a typical disco song of the 80s. The song is an attempt to recreate the retro feel with moderate result.
Paniye Paniye... Singers: Javed Ali, Renuka Lyrics: Yugabharathi
Yuvan's pick of breezy light melody for the flick is 'Paniye Paniye' which is quite enjoyable. Javed Ali's slender voice narrates the love-stung male character where the suave feminine vocals of Renuka confront it to perfection. This well-arranged number only turns out to be a modest sounding affair.
Laddu Laddu Rendu Laddu... Singers: Vikram, Priyadharshini, Suchitra Lyrics: Yugabharathi
'Laddu Laddu' tread-mills back to the glorious Ilayaraja's era, bringing out the raw raunchiness with its perfect orchestration. Vikram along with the sultry sounding Suchitra pack the show like an 80s disco station. The veena rendition towards the end with the pitched bass creates the perfect item number, which may find many takers on the dancing floor. Along with the dancing sirens Shriya Saran and Reema Sen, the song will be the next most demanded affair on the charts.
Yuvan has composed a typically contemporary masala album that entertains. He has tried to rejuvenate the retro tracks with admirable results. "Laddu Laddu" is a feisty number, "Podi Paiyyan Polave" is a fun song while the melody number fails to enthrall. But the album will be reaping better results, given its bankable hit-man Vikram.
Verdict: Rajapattai- Rejuvenating (80's) effect.
